Valley Forge National Historic Park

This 3,500-acre park is an autumn oasis, bursting with adventure. Whether you are looking to hike, bike, run, walk, or horseback ride, this is the place for you. With over 20 miles of interconnected trails, there is plenty of room for everyone to enjoy the wide-open spaces of Valley Forge National Historic Park. The Joseph Plumb Martin trail connects the Visitor Center to some of the park's most iconic sites. The U.S. National Memorial Arch provides a great backdrop for an afternoon picnic. Living history abounds at this park as well, with live presentations offered by costumed soldiers on Saturday and Sunday. This park is the pride of Philadelphia and offers something for everyone.

Schuykill River Trail

The Schuylkill River Trail is a wide, off-road trail. It is paved the entire length, making it the ideal choice for bikers and those looking for a place for a leisurely stroll. The Philadelphia City Line to Phoenixville trail runs next to the SEPTA stations at Spring Mill, Norristown, and Conshohocken. It provides easy access to the west side of Valley Forge National Historic Park. Above Conshohocken, there is a connection to the Cross Country trail. The current stretch connects to Germantown Pike in Plymouth Township, with plans to expand to 17.5 miles into Willow Grove and Bucks County. This fabulous trail winds through the heart of Montgomery County and is the perfect place to spend an autumn day.

Wissahickon Valley Park

Walking among the 57 miles of trails in Wissahickon Valley Park, it is easy to see why it is considered the gem of Philadelphia's Fairmount Park system. Stone bridges and huts, erected long ago, pay homage to the early Quaker settlers. Two incredible Native American statues pay tribute to the Leni Lenape tribe from this area. A gravel road, known as Forbidden Drive, follows the creek allowing for an easy hike. There are plenty of paths and trails for more challenging hikes or mountain bike adventures. This park is home to the last covered bridge in Philadelphia as well as the historic Valley Green Inn. It is designated by the National Audubon Society as an important birding area. Your first visit to Wissahickon Valley Park will definitely not be your last!

Mckaig Nature Education Center

McKaig Nature Education Center is dedicated to promoting education and developing nature appreciation among people of all ages. With over 93 acres of park land, their goal is to preserve this space for future generations. They offer educational events throughout the year, such as the "Skip Black Friday" hike and "Nighttime Orienteering" class. Volunteer opportunities include planting trees and helping with park restoration. This is a great place to enjoy the outdoors while giving back to the community.

Norristown Farm Park

This unique park offers a variety of 18th century buildings and wide open agricultural fields. There is a seven-mile paved trail for visitors to enjoy walking, jogging, biking, and much more. There is a stocked trout stream and an abundance of wildlife viewing opportunities. There are also rustic wooded trails, offering more strenuous options for hikers. Several picnic pavilions are provided throughout the park for an afternoon lunch. The park is open daily from 6am until sunset.
