Check Out Philadelphia's Craft Beer Scene

Did you know that Frommer's named Philadelphia one of the fourteen best beer cities in the world?

In the mid-19th through the early 20th century, over ninety breweries operated in the city, but Prohibition brought the brewery boom to a close.

Today, Philadelphia's craft beer scene is thriving once again, and some of the top breweries just a quick trip from our apartments in Conshohocken include...

Manayunk Brewing Company

Located on Main Street, Manayunk features one of the largest decks in Philadelphia. The building was constructed in 1882 as a cotton mill to take advantage of its key location at the mouth of the Manayunk River. In 1912, the building became home to a woolen mill, and the brewery opened eighty-four years later. The brewers have brewed more than six hundred varieties of beer, and they continue to explore new twists on classic styles. Choices include Philadelphia Porter, Wandering Wit, and Table IPA.

Dock Street Brewery

Found on the ground floor of a 110-year-old firehouse, the Dock Street Brewery offers a casual gathering spot for family and friends. It opened in 1985, and the taproom is complete with brightly colored walls, chalkboard menus, and works of art. The beers include Viben, Table Manners, and Underdog Rising, and they can be enjoyed with pizzas such as Fig Jam and Tony Pepperoni.

Victory Brewing Company

Established by two childhood friends, the Victory Brewing Company stands not far from where they first met. It opened in 1996 in what was once a Pepperidge Farm factory and produces more than 125,000 barrels every year. The spacious taproom offers a laid-back atmosphere, and beers include Storm King Stout, Mad King's Weiss, and Sour Monkey.
