It was founded in 1824 in honor of Benjamin Franklin, and today, it is the most visited museum in Pennsylvania.

The museum is home to the second oldest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere, and it also features an array of exhibits such as:

Terracotta Warriors of the First Empire (on display through March 4, 2018)

Journey back in time to ancient China to explore the mystery and wonder of the country's Terracotta Warriors. These statues were one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of all time, and they were unearthed in 1974 when a Chinese farmer struck terracotta fragments while digging a well. Thousands were discovered, and they were crafted more than two thousand years ago.

The Franklin Air Show (on display indefinitely)

The Franklin Air Show is where visitors can put their piloting skills to the test in a flight simulator. It also features artifacts from the earliest aviation pioneers including the Wright Brothers and Amelia Earhart, as well as a Wright Model B Flyer, which was the first plane to fly non-stop from Philadelphia to Atlantic City.

Changing Earth (on display indefinitely)

According to the museum,Changing Earth is constructed of sustainable materials, and it features dynamic sensory experiences that demonstrate the interconnected systems of earth science. Activities include making your own weather forecast and exploring seismographs of recent earthquakes.
