Kitty Cottage is a no-kill shelter for both rescued and surrendered cats. The animals live in a cage-free environment which allows better human interaction. Since opening in 2002, the center has found homes for more than 3,000 cats. Up to forty are waiting for a family at any given time, and all are microchipped and up-to-date on shots.
Kitty Cottage demands primarily on volunteers who work on Monday, Wednesday, or Saturday mornings. Duties include feeding and socializing the cats as well as basic cleaning tasks.
Established in 1855, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has been the birthplace of countless firsts in pediatric medicine. It's recognized as one of the best children's hospitals in the United States, and patients come from around the world to seek treatment for their complex medical conditions.
The Children's Hospital is a charitable, nonprofit organization that to date, has raised 970.5 million dollars to help with research, technology upgrades, and so much more. Adults can become a part of the Wawa Volunteer Services program. Such volunteers are responsible for greeting visitors, playing with the children during wait times, and helping families find their way around.
Spanning 42-acres, the Philadelphia Zoo is home to over 1,300 animals, several of which are rare and endangered. It's nestled on the west bank of the Schuylkill River and has welcomed visitors for more than a century.
The zoo has approximately 500 volunteers who contribute thousands of hours every year. Many work as docents, and give tours, answer questions, and serve as interpreters of the animal kingdom.
