Check Out Philadelphia's Cultural Arts Scene

Whether you enjoy listening to the sounds of an orchestra, marveling at the voices of opera stars, or watching ballet dancers grace the stage, Philadelphia is home to a thriving cultural arts scene where you can do these things and more.

Philadelphia Orchestra

Renowned for its distinctive sound, the Philadelphia Orchestra is one of the preeminent orchestras in the world. Performances are held at various venues including the Kimmel Center and the Mann Center for the Performing Arts, and the members strive for excellence, innovation, and creativity both onstage and off. The orchestra dates back more than one hundred years and has been recognized by several national publications including The New York Times.

Opera Philadelphia

Opera Philadelphia is dedicated to embracing innovation and developing opera for the 21st century. It's the city's only company producing grand opera, and with more than forty years of experience, it is home to some of the industry's brightest stars and composers. Opera Philadelphia calls the Academy of Music home, and at over 150 years old, it is one of the world's most legendary and treasured theaters.

Pennsylvania Ballet

When Barbara Weisberger established the Pennsylvania Ballet in 1963, she achieved her dream of bringing the best dance to the state. The company's first performance was the Nutcracker, and its successful debut led to appearances on the acclaimed PBS show Dance in America. In 2010, some of the dancers performed in the Academy Award-nominated film Black Swan, and two years later, the School of Pennsylvania Ballet reopened after closing years prior. The company presents a season of six programs, and performances are held at both the Academy of Music and the Merriam Theater.
