Did you know that modern pizza evolved from similar flatbread dishes in eighteenth-century Naples?
Before that time, flatbread was typically topped with ingredients such as garlic, salt, and basil.
No matter what type of toppings you prefer, you can enjoy a delicious meal at the following pizzerias:
Bar Lucca
Family, food, and wine have long been a passion of Brian Pieri. His inspiration for Bar Lucca came in 2012 after he visited his grandfather's hometown of Lucca, Italy. While there, he studied Italy's food and culture, and the restaurant is his way of sharing his experiences with the residents of Conshohocken. The meals are made using authentic ingredients and handmade dough, and pizzas include Al Sole, Tartuto, and Margherita.
Old City Pizza
Nestled in Philadelphia's Historic District, Old City Pizza pairs delicious pies with authentic Greek and Italian cuisine. The restaurant is known for exceeding customers' expectations, and the servers have enjoyed getting to know people from around the world. The chefs make the pizzas using the freshest and finest ingredients, and gourmet options include Hawaiian, Meat Lovers, and Chicken Delight.
Tacconelli's Pizza
A few years after Giovanni Tacconelli immigrated to Philadelphia from Italy, he decided to bake bread as he did before leaving home. He and a few friends built a brick oven, and his business thrived until World War II when his sons were drafted. Giovanni was forced to stop baking until 1946 when he decided to use the oven to make tomato pies with a lot of sauce and a sprinkle of cheese. Now in its fifth generation, Tacconelli's offers a casual atmosphere, and in addition to the tomato pie, the menu includes traditional pizzas topped with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, and more.
